We often hear that a balance must be struck between renewable and fossil energy. That technologies used in clean energy are not yet ready to scale and would have many economic and social consequences
But the truth is that the balance is right now:
More than 80 percent of the world's energy production is derived from fossil fuels.
99 percent of the world's population breathes air whose quality parameters exceed the limits.
13 million annual deaths worldwide are due to preventable environmental causes, including air pollution.
$5.9 trillion spent to subsidize the fossil fuel industry, for 2020 alone
$4 trillion needs to be invested in renewable energy, including technology and infrastructure, to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
That can't be called a balance, we have a way to go and of course make mistakes, but for our children to breathe clean air and live on this planet, we need to stop burning anything for energy. There is no other way.
